Pontederia cordata (pickerelweed) is an aquatic native Ontario perennial with violet-blue hyacinth-like flower spikes. Each flower lasts for one day. Grows best in shallow water or a wet, mucky soil. Pickerelweed is an emergent, aquatic plant that doesn't like to dry out. Grow at the margins of ponds with a water depth of 15 cm. (Photo courtesy of NVK)
