Helianthus Lemon Queen’ (perennial sunflower)
Available beginning May 19th…
Helianthus Lemon Queen’ (perennial sunflower) has single, yellow daisy-like flowers on very tall bloom stems. It forms a busy clump of green foliage with many bloom stems. Great planted in the back of the border for late season colour and a provider of pollen for many pollinators. Makes a good combination with Vernonia novaborasensis (New York Ironweed). Helianthus Lemon Queen is a hybrid between Helianthus tuberosus and Helianthus pauciflorus ssp. subrhomboideus. Helianthus tuberosus is a native Ontario plant that is grown for its edible root. Helianthus tuberosus is highly invasive even though it is a native Ontario perennial.
We have grown Helianthus ‘Lemon Queen’ for over 20 years and have never found it to be invasive.
