Ceanothus americanus (New Jersey Tea Shrub) is an Ontario native shrub that has clusters of tiny fragrant white flowers. This is a compact, dense, round shrub. The new twigs are yellow and provide winter interest. Difficult to transplant once established because of its deep taproot. We have found the deer love to eat the old seed heads. They prune them beautifully and their browsing (only in the winter) never bothers these super resilient shrubs. We under-plant it with a ground cover of Veronica 'Waterperry Blue'. The blue and white colour scheme looks great together.
