Athyrium niponicum Regal Red (Japanese painted fern) is an outstanding winter hardy fern that has dark violet red interior that contrasts with the bright silver edges. The pinnules twist a little giving the frond a fluffed up appearance. Every year it gets even more beautiful and the distinct burgundy colour is highlighted and more present.
