Acanthus hungaricus is an architecturally bold perennial that has grown extremely well in our Zone 5 botanical gardens at Plant Paradise Country Gardens. It does not tolerate winter wet so we have it situated in a part shade garden that never experiences thaw and freeze. The large, long upright flower spikes of hooded purple-pink bloom August to October.
