January 12, 2019 – Gardener’s Journal –
We have been growing, trialing, and selling Leucanthemum (a.k.a. shasta daisies) here at Plant Paradise Country Gardens organic perennial nursery for many years. Leucanthemum attracts many beneficial insects, butterflies and bees which makes them a worthy addition to your garden for insect control and flower power. We grow Leucanthemum that are hardy to Zones 5 to 9 and are available in different heights, flower forms and bloom colours. With reliable winter snow coverage shasta daisies are hardy to gardening zones that are even colder than Zone 5.

Leucanthemums are fast growers and do require dividing regularly to keep them growing successfully. Divide them around every 2-3 years. They grow best in full to part sun with well drained soil and regular watering/rainfall. With regular deadheading Leucanthemum will re-bloom throughout the season. Read our recommended planting instructions for everything you grow.

The Leucanthemums we grow are bred not to have a shasta stinky smell which makes them great for cut flowers. Each plant selection has distinct characteristics and I have highlighted some selections we grow and sell. View the complete catalog here.

Leucanthemum ‘Coconut’ (photo above) has fluffy double white daisies and a compact growth habit of only 20 inches high. This is a newer cultivar that is quite beautiful.

Leucanthemum ‘Victorian Secret’ has ruffled flowers on 14 inch stems that last and last throughout the summer heat.

Leucanthemum ‘Goldfinch’ is the most yellow shasta daisy ever. The semi-double flowers very slowly change from bright lemon yellow to an ivory white as they age. It is an award-winner and grows to a height of 19 inches.

Leucanthemum ‘Daisy May’ is from the ‘Amazing Daisies’ Proven Winners Collection. The first year we trialed this daisy it bloomed from June until frost with regular deadheading. It was truly outstanding and returned the next year to put on an even bigger show. With 3 inch single white flowers it is a highly floriferous selection. It puts on a long-blooming show even in the heat of summer and grows to a height of between 12-24 inches with a solid dome of flowers. We have also added the other daisy from the Proven Winners Amazing Daisies Collection: Leucanthemum ‘Banana Cream’ to our catalog (photo not available). This one opens a bright lemon yellow and matures to a creamy white and is only 18 inches high. Another winner.
